If you haven't made changes to your old copy of the driver database, then there is no reason to use HT Merge. The time to run HT Merge is immediately after you have installed a driver database update. HT Merge is only needed when you have made changes to your old copy of the driver database (you have added your own drivers or you have edited exiting drivers) and you want to copy or "merge" those changes into the new driver database so they won't be lost. The database updater is self-contained and will handle the installation of the new database. It is not required to install a driver database update. over 3 Pro users will never need to use it.There has been some confustion about the purpose of HT Merge.
